  Mallorca or Mallorca?
We have used the spelling ‘ Mallorca’ throughout as it is now widely recognised in the UK, and is prefered by the local population, as well as being the official Spanish and Mallorquin form.

Onward Travel from Palma de Mallorca Airport
Improve your carbon footprint by using public transport – take the bus from the airport to the train station, and then the narrow-gauge train which meanders to us through the bucolic Mallorcan countryside.

Buses
Buses from outside the airport arrivals’ terminal run every 10 minutes, with a 12 minute journey to Placa D’Espanya. It stops right outside the brand-new rail and bus terminal, Estació Intermodal, at a single fare of €1.85 (about £1.25).

Trains
Trains to Sineu (on the Manacor branch). Modern air-conditioned trains leave every hour, from just after 06.00 until about 22.00, with a journey-time wandering through the villages and countryside of about 45 minutes, at a single fare of €2.45 (about £1.65).

See http://tib.caib.es for access to timetables and bus connections - in English.

If you need to wait for a train, there are chic bars within the station, and many traditional ones around Placa D’Espanya – try Bar Cristal opposite the station for wonderful G&Ts.

Car Hire
If you want to hire a car, we suggest you make sure that it is from an on-airport car hire company (i.e. one that has an office immediately on exiting from arrivals (ask for a list from us on booking)), and not one that needs waiting for a bus to their office - you may find a long queue when you get there. Make sure you know exactly what you are getting if you book a car through a linked booking from a budget airline - sometimes the offer that appears too good to be true - is.

Also it is worth paying what appears to be an extra daily rate to obtain complete damage cover (about £6/day) - it may appear more expensive, but you may find that the cheaper off-airport car hirers, although appearing to offer the same, have forgotten to tell you that the windscreen, tyres, mirrors etc. are not covered –and yes it’s extra. Many car hire companies make their profits from claiming damage to the car on return, which is sometimes difficult to disprove (and they’ve already got your credit card deposit), and by charging exorbitant sums for returning the car without a full tank of petrol/diesel. Be careful, pay what may appear to be a bit more, and go home happy.

Cycling
If you are bringing your bicycle with you, it’s about a 20 miles direct ride to Sineu. There are also lots of cross-country routings, but you will need to use main roads as well. There are sections of main road with a cycle-friendly margin, and drivers are (surprisingly!) courteous and respectful towards cyclists –cycling’s a very popular sport in Mallorca for all age groups – and they know that the man they pass in the colourful lycra outfit, could be their grandad. A cycle helmet is compulsory. You can also take your bike on the train – free.
